After a year away from soccer, Kaila Steenlage says she is starting to miss it. As she begins her sophomore year at the University of Northern Iowa, she is planning to join one of the school's many intramural teams. Between games, Kaila will continue to pursue a double major in elementary education and early childhood education. "I've always loved kids," says the former Alliance and West High defender.

This summer, she held down four jobs, including teaching in a local daycare center. At one point she worked full time in the two-year-old room--a setting she describes as "a little rough at times."

But who knows--those little whirlwinds in Miss Steenlage's room may some day be focusing all that excess energy on soccer fields.
