Beth Watson
As a starting left midfielder, Beth Watson had a terrific first year
playing for the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs.
She slammed in 8 goals (third leading scorer), served up seven assists
(second highest on team), and walked away at the end on the season with
an Honorable Mention All conference in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference. Although her Division II team--coached by Jill
McCartney--had an 11-9-1 record, Beth hopes for at least second place
in the conference next year.
"I especially want to beat the University of
Minnesota, Duluth and Winona," says the former Iowa City West High
School center midfielder. "Last season we lost players
because of injuries, so next year it will be a good experience to have
healthy players as subs."
Here's more on Beth's perspectives on college soccer and
her years playing
in Iowa City:
Best experience playing college soccer: Playing a
game in the snow, slipping and sliding everywhere. But, man, was
it cold!
Worst experience playing college soccer: I can't
even think of one!
College major: As of now, I'm majoring in elementary
education. But if I don't pursue that, I will study sports
management with a coaching minor.
Words of wisdom to younger players: Have fun, try
new things, and get to know the people you're playing soccer with,
because you'll be spending a lot of time with them during the coming
years.
Time with Alliance: Alliance is a great club and I
owe so much to the coaches, parents, and everyone who supported me.
Had it not been for club soccer, I probably wouldn't have been able to
continue playing soccer at the college level. Some of my best
soccer memories are about playing Alliance soccer. Thank you
everyone!!!
